Archery Elk season generally runs from the 4th Saturday in August through to the 4th Sunday in September. This is also the rutting season for the bull elk. The bulls are bugling, gathering together their herds of cows and battling off rival bulls. It is a very exciting time of year when the woods are filled with sounds of the animals echoing off canyon walls and should be experienced by all.
This is also the best time of year to hunt for the person interested in archery hunts. We take full advantage of the fact that the bulls are in the rut and mainly concerned about mating with the cows, so that we can give our clients the best possible opportunity. One of the ranches we hunt is used exclusively for archery elk hunters, many fine animals are seen and taken on this ranch. Our methods of hunting range from bugling and cow calling animals in, to stalking and tree stands along game trails and wallows. We normally try to place our archery hunters within 30 yards of their animal, however depending on the comfort and skill level of the hunter shots of 50 - 60 yards may be possible. Archery deer season coincides with the archery elk season and this to is an excellent time of year for a good opportunity at a nice buck. The bucks are not as leery this time of year and in fact many bucks are seen together at this time. We use some of the same methods listed above for our archery deer hunts and try to place our clients within 30 yards of their animal. For our clients that are hunting the elk/deer combo we often come across many nice bucks while elk hunting and vice versa. Come join us for an unforgettable hunting adventure in Eastern Oregon's Northside Unit. |
