Hiking

McClelland Mountain Trail (Malheur National Forest)

10 mile route travels through open, high mountain country. many scenic view. Semi-private area. Big game wildlife. Within Aldrich Mountains. Strenuous. Connect to trail via Riley Creek Trail at end of Forest Route 2190

Squaw Rock Trail (Malheur National Forest)

11 mile route travels through the heart of Vinegar Hill-Indian Rock Scenic Area offering scenic vistas of North Fork John Day and Strawberry Mountain wilderness areas. Alpine wildflowers, remnants of former mining operations. Moderately strenuous. Trailhead on Forest Rout 45 just south of Umatilla National Forest border. Trail ends at Dupratt Springs.


Historic Sites/Museums

KamWah Chung & Co. Museum (John Day)

Building built 1886-1887 as trading post, served as center for Chinese community until 1940's. Thousands of artifacts and relics illustrating structures's may uses - home, general store, temple, doctor's office and pharmacy.


Back Country Byways

South Fork John Day River (Dayville)

50 mile route. Wildlife, fishing, camping and Murderer's Creek Wildhorse Management Area.
