![]() Oregon's Northside Outfitters operates a Big Game Guide Service located just inside the Northside Unit in the small town of Long Creek. Long Creek is situated in a valley of the Blue Mountains approximately 40 miles north of John Day, OR and 90 miles south of Pendleton, OR on State Road 395. We have been providing guided hunts in this area since 1995 and guide services for over 20 years. The Northside Unit is found in Grant County and consists of 47% public lands. It begins in the town of John Day and runs northwestward up US Hwy 26 to State Hwy 19, then northerly along State Hwy 19 to the North Fork of the John Day River at Kimberly. The boundary then turns northeast following the North Fork of the John Day River until it intersects Long Creek Road at Monument. It then turns southeasterly following Long Creek Road to Long Creek, at which point it runs north along US Hwy 395 to County Road 20, then southeasterly again on County Road 20 to State Hwy 7 where it turns south following State Hwy 7 to US Hwy 26. The boundary then follows US Hwy 26 southwestwardly back to the town of John Day. ![]() Malheur National Forest is situated partially in the Northside Unit and partially the Desolation Unit. The Malheur National Forest consist of 1,460,000 acres of diverse forest, high desert grassland, sage, juniper, pine, and fir trees plus hidden alpine lakes and meadows. Located in the Blue Mountains, the forest's elevation ranges from 4000 feet to its highest peak of 9038 feet atop Strawberry Mountain. Strawberry Mountain is found in the center of the Malheur Forest and its range runs east to west through the forest. Currently we possess the only Forest Service Permit for the Malheur National Forest. The Northside Unit routinely has Eastern Oregon's highest success rate for Rifle Elk hunters and the overall area meets or exceeds Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's goal for bull to cow ratio. The Northside Unit also has an outstanding hunter success rate for Mule Deer. The ODFW does a great job in managing our deer herds and keeping our buck to doe ratios at or above their objective. Our Deer Rifle Hunts for 2000 had a 100% success rate. | ||||||||||||||||
